 About Georges Kotrotsios

Georges Kotrotsios dedicated his professional life to the creation of economic and societal value through high-end technology. Between 2010 and 2022 served as member of the Executive Board of CSEM, a major Swiss R&I -Research and Innovation- facility in microtechnologies and smart digital systems. His role was to contribute to the bridging of the technology to the market. Before that he had key management role in the same organization. His scientific and technology background is in optical fiber sensors and systems. Retired, since February 2023, he is involved in the preparation of new projects related to technological innovation.

  • Member of the International Advisory Board of IDIAP (www.idiap.ch), leading Research Institute on Artificial Intelligence since  2021

  • Member of the Executive Board of EARTO, the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (www.earto.eu) between 2009 and 2018 

  • Member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss nation-wide initiative, AM-TTC Alliance, the umbrella association of the Swiss technology transfer centres for Advanced –Digital- Manufacturing between 2018 and 2022

  • Chaired the Alliance (Heterogeneous Technology Alliance - HTA) of Fraunhofer-Microelectronics, CEA-LETI, VTT and CSEM on Smart Systems (HTA) in 2012, 2016 and 2020; Member of the Board of this Alliance between 2009 and 2022

  • Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of CSEM do Brazil, a Brazilian R&I Center between 2010 and 2021

  • Member of the Expert group of the western Switzerland cluster for microtechnology Micronarc between 2009 and 2022

  • Member of the Executive Board of EREA (the European Association of Aeronautics Research Centers) between 2014 and 2020;

Georges has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and conferences, as well as newspapers. He is one of the co-authors of the Genessys, the European White paper on Nanotechnology. He is member of the Scientific Committee of numerous conferences (Eurosensors, Phealth, EuroNanoForum) and is acting as a reviewer in major scientific reviews as well as expert for national and international R&D projects. He recently authored the monograph “Data, New Technologies and Global Imbalances”.

He holds a Ph.D. in Optoelectronics and an MBA in management of technology; he is passionate of history. 

​

In 2015 he has been elected member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences.
